How Silver Fox Advisors give back to the Communities they serve.
The Silver Fox Advisors Outreach Committee’s objective is to support and partner with other organizations to promote the expansion and success of the greater Houston business community’s privately held businesses.
We believe that, through strong partnerships and alignments with organizations that support a similar target audience, we can enhance and increase the value provided to the community.
We recognize those organizations we align with in 3 categories which help us focus on how best to support each one.
We have a long-term relationship with Houston's Better Business Bureau (BBB). One of our most rewarding activities is judging in their annual awards programs. The Awards of Excellence and the Pinnacle Awards are opportunities for the BBB to recognize the successes of their members. We also have the winners make presentations at one of our monthly to help them showcase their accomplishments.
Our alignment with Houston Community College continues to expand as they have matured and grown their entrepreneurial programs. This is an exciting time for both organizations to make an even bigger impact in our community. We work across the entire HCC network to provide mentoring, coaching and advising services to their students on a regular basis. We even have office’s set up at HCC to be ready when the need arises. We are very excited to be part of HCC’s entrepreneurial evolution.
Each year Rice University’s Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship holds its Rice Business Plan Competition in which teams made up of Graduate Students from Colleges and Universities around the world compete for prizes totaling more than $1.2 million. Silver Fox Advisors participate as judges in this event and are a proud sponsor of this world class competition.
An extremely successful national educational program, sponsored by Goldman Sachs, is administered locally by HCC. The program is called Goldman Sachs 10K Small Business Program which has graduated nearly 600 alumni here in the Houston area. Each student/business owner who qualifies receives a free mini-MBA type education which has been instrumental in helping Houston’s small businesses grow. Many Goldman Sachs alumni participate in our CEO Roundtables that are scattered all over the Houston metro area which is a great way to receive additional coaching and mentoring from our Silver Fox Advisors as they work to implement their 3-year growth plan.
Everyone deserves a second chance, which is why several of our Silver Fox Advisors participate in the Prison Entrepreneurship Program better known as PEP. Silver Fox Advisors function as servant leaders on a mission to transform inmates who have made poor decisions in the past. Many struggle to re-establish their life once they leave prison. For those interested, we share education, knowledge and expertise so that when the time is right they can become a valuable part of our community as a small business owner or an amazing employee. What a great way to make a difference in many lives as well as our own through this life changing program.
Mentoring and helping with the judging of the Houston Community College’s (HCC) Spring Branch Campus Business Plan Competition is always an awarding experience. Teams of advisors work with small business owners or those dreaming of becoming a business owner to craft their business models and plans for expansion. The winners walk away with the knowledge and ability to take their business to the next level.
Our newest partnership is with BRATECC - Brazil-Texas Chamber of Commerce. They are instrumental in helping companies from Brazil who are interested in establishing a business presence here in Houston. We support their members by offering valuable services such as CEO Roundtables and our Lunch & Learn program. In exchange, the Silver Fox Advisors can assist them during this transition with relationships, introductions and valuable advice when working and living in the Houston area.
Silver Fox Advisors are members of numerous business, charitable, church, civic, community, service, and social organizations. Whether they are sitting on the board of directors, one on one coaching or just helping out where needed you’ll be sure to run into one of us along your path. When the need calls, they reach out to their fellow Silver Fox Advisors for an extra helping hand. Our experiences in the business world are shared with over 140 and counting organizations across the Houston area.
